Matilda Torres’ Emma Velasquez gets congratulations from Yamileth Hernandez Lopez after scoring one of her three goals in Thursday’s 5-0 quarterfinals victory over Taft.

The top-seeded Matilda Torres Toros girls soccer team didn’t take too long to show why they were given the top seed in the Div. V Central Section playoffs en route to a 5-0 victory over No. 9 Taft last week.

The Toros scored off an own goal three minutes into the game, and then scored a goal of their own in the ninth minute to cruise to the victory Thursday in the quarterfinals.

Torres will play No. 12 Foothill, who was a penalty kick upset winner against No. 4 Selma. Torres will host Foothill on Tuesday at Madera South’s stadium at 6 p.m.
