Toros girls soccer coach Marco Gomez gets the traditional Gatorade dunking after his team defeated Orcutt to win the Div. V Central Section championship.

The Matilda Torres Toros girls soccer team struck for two goals in the first half, and added another goal in the second half for a 3-0 victory over the Orcutt Academy Spartans to win the school’s first soccer Central Section Championship.

The top-seeded Toros got two goals from freshman Emma Velasquez, and another from Yuriana Ortiz to defeat second-seeded Orcutt in the Div. V Central Section Championship on Friday at Madera South’s stadium.

“Thank God for everything he has given us,” head coach Marco Gomez said. “We started a goal from the beginning. As soon as we started this program, we said we would win a championship. Every day, when the school was getting built, I knew it was going to happen. This was the goal.”
