Torres’ Ray Saldana gets ready to score one of his three goals in Friday’s quarterfinal victory over Strathmore. Saldana scored three goals in the 6-2 win.
A lot of pressure is put on a team with the No. 1 seed, but the Matilda Torres Toros boys soccer team took one more step to the Div. V Central Section Championship match with a 6-2 victory over Strathmore on Friday.
The top-seeded Toros scored a goal in the first minute, but the eighth-seeded Spartans came right back in the next minute to tie the score. Then, the Toros scored the next five goals in the quarterfinal victory at Madera South.
“It feels great to go to the semifinals,” said head coach Jose Flores Vega. “I knew we had it since last year. I knew a lot of the players from the last three years. I have the opportunity to celebrate moving to the net stage.”
