Shawna Petrosian, a first-grade teacher at Nishimoto Elementary School, was named Elementary School Educator of the Year, being recognized by the California League of Schools, for her dedication, deep commitment, and connection to the students she teaches.

The California League of Schools’ Educator of the Year Award honors outstanding teachers across the state. Each year, school principals nominate teachers who demonstrate passion, effectiveness, and a positive impact in the classroom.

Nominees are selected from various regions throughout California, with one teacher chosen as the Educator of the Year, per each region. The award highlights the impactful work teachers do in shaping the lives of their students and recognizing their contributions to education. This is the second year in a row Madera Unified had a Teacher of the Year.
