Supes hear proposed changes to ordinance

Madera residents can expect some changes this Fourth of July when it comes to how the Madera County Sheriff’s Office addresses illegal or improper firework use, as well as the hefty fines violations may come with, should an ordinance pass in the upcoming weeks. 

During the Madera County Board of Supervisor’s meeting Tuesday morning, Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue came before the Board and Introduced for consideration an ordinance to amend and modernize Chapter 9.36 of Title 9 of the Madera County Code pertaining to fireworks. 

As fireworks are no longer just a seasonal nuisance in Madera, neither is the limit to how dangerous and destructive they can be. Illegal fireworks pose more than just a noise concern, they cause extensive property damage, structure fires, wild fires and personal injury every year across the state and pose a particular hazard to rural and high-risk fire communities such as Madera, Pogue said in his remarks.
