Madera South’s Mario Aguirre rises up for a kill during last Tuesday’s match with Sunnyside. The Stallions lost the match in three sets by a total of 11 points. However, on Thursday, led by Aguirre’s 13 kills, Madera South defeated Sanger West in three sets.
Although in control throughout the match, the Madera South Stallions boys volleyball team was taken to the end in all three sets to record its first North Yosemite League win of the season against Sanger West.
The Stallions won the match by a total of just seven points Thursday, although they held big leads. Madera South won the first set 25-23, then went extra in the second set, 26-24, and held on late for a 25-22 win in the third set.
“We definitely needed this win,” head coach Jesus Martinez-Camacho said. “This will build up their confidence. We started off strong. After a few losses, they started to not believe in themselves. This will help build their self-esteem, again.”
