Madera South’s Fer Gutierrez makes the block, with help from Ivan Miranda (16) on Matilda Torres’ Michael Lucero during North Yosemite League action Wednesday. Gutierrez put down seven kills and had seven blocks in the four-set victory over the Toros.

In rivalry games, emotions run high, and it hurt the Madera South Stallions boys volleyball team from the service line in a four-set win over crosstown rivals Matilda Torres in North Yosemite League action.

The Stallions almost gave an entire set to the Toros in missed serves. They missed 20 serves in the four sets, including eight in the first set, in which they won.

Despite the 20 missed serves, the Stallions had the edge over the Toros the entire night despite dropping the second set. In the four-set match, the Stallions outscored the Toros 94-83.
