Some things we just know

A few days ago, I was driving to a location where I had never been, I had gotten directions from a resource many of us use now, Google. Since I don’t have a navigation system in my car, I generally look up an address on my phone. I usually do that before I begin driving, so I am not driving while using my phone; or I pull over somewhere to look up the directions on my phone.

As I was looking for the address that day, something occurred to me. There are some things we just know, and we may not remember how we know them. I was looking for an address with an odd number, and I knew it would be on the left side of the street, because all the addresses on the left side were odd-numbered addresses.

When did I learn that? I don’t think I learned that in school, but I believe it is always the case that the odd numbers are on one side and the even numbers are on the other side of the street. Depending on which way you are traveling, the odd may be on the right side or the left side, but odds and evens are always on opposite sides of the street.
