Softball scores late for win

Madera starter Jaylee Gutknecht throws a pitch during Thursday’s victory over Atwater. Gutknecht earned a no-decision in the win, but threw three innings of one-run ball. 

 

After the Atwater Falcons tied the game in the top of the fourth inning, the Madera Coyotes softball team scored seven unanswered runs for an 11-4 victory Thursday at Madera Coyote Softball Stadium. 


The Falcons scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game, but the Coyotes scored six runs in the bottom of the inning for the victory. 


Malea Ricks led the Coyotes with four hits, and three runs scored. She drove in a run and stole five bases. Savana Cortez and Brilyn Santiago each had two hits. Cortez scored three runs from the lead-off spot in the line-up.
