Liberty’s Titus Johnson shoots a 3-pointer during Friday’s loss to Chowchilla. Johnson scored a team-high 20 points, including making his first high school dunk.

Although playing with just eight players, the Liberty Hawks battled tough with the Chowchilla Tribe, but couldn’t keep up in a 62-49 loss Friday at Liberty.

Despite playing with eight players, the Hawks battled tough and tried to cut into the lead in the fourth quarter. However, the play of Ryan Deatherage and Khaled Escheik was the difference.

The Chowchilla duo combined for 42 points. Deatherage scored all of his points after the second quarter, and scored eight in the fourth. Meanwhile, Escheik also scored all 20 of his points in three quarters. He was scoreless in the fourth after fouling out midway though the quarter.
