Madera’s Jania Warren drives to the hoop during Monday’s comeback victory over the Merced Bears in the home opener in Joe Flores Gym.
The Madera Coyotes girls basketball team found themselves trailing by nine points in its home opener Monday against the Merced Bears.
From that point, the Coyotes outscored the Bears 33-11 for a 44-31 victory.
“I told them we were being too passive on offense,” head coach Jason Smith said. “We were passing the ball around and not attacking their zone. If we would attack the press and pass instead of dribble through things, we’re going to get a lot of layups and shots. That’s what happened.”
