In his own words, long-time activist for the city, Herman Perez is receiving the ultimate honor when he is at the front of the Old Timers’ Day Parade next week.

Perez, who has had his hand in many civic organizations, said that he was honored to be chosen as the Grand Marshal for the September 28 parade.

“I would have never fathomed that one day I would be the lead,” he said. “I’ve been to the parade, but never thought I would be named Grand Marshal. It’s such an honor that I’m humbled. I’ve received many honors in my life, but this one is special because it’s here in Madera. I’ve been in the parade for councils and campaigns and other groups with other people, but never at the head of the pack. It’s special.”
