For The Madera Tribune
A Madera Police officer watches a fire in a field to make sure it doesn’t make its way to an apartment complex Thursday evening.
Madera Police officers responded to the 1000 block of Barnett Way regarding a vegetation fire in an empty field behind an apartment complex.
Thanks to observant residents living in this area, Madera’s Cal Fire was able to respond quickly and extinguish the fire before it could spread. Madera PD is investigating the cause of the fire. At this time the fire is believed to have been caused by aerial fireworks.
As summer approaches, Madera PD is sending a friendly reminder out to the public that setting off aerial fireworks is illegal. The consequences for setting off aerial fireworks range from paying a fine to being held criminally or civilly responsible for any damages caused by setting off aerial fireworks.
