Memorial ceremony draws dozens of officers

Peace officers from various departments gather at Courthouse Park Tuesday morning for a memorial ceremony for fallen officers.
Peace officers from every department in Madera were on scene at Courthouse Park in downtown Madera on Tuesday.
Gathering together not to conduct a joint force operation, but instead to remember. In a show of honor to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, police from Madera and Chowchilla, sheriff’s deputies, correctional officers, and California highway patrol officers arrived shortly before noon at the annual Madera County Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony, many dressed in full regalia.
They were joined at the ceremony by family of honored officers, the district attorney’s office, correction and probation officers, along with many others who in one way or another serve the community in a similar manner. Now in its 17th year, the ceremony has become a tradition in Madera.
