Madera says goodbye to beacon of joy, generosity

William James “Bill” Alessini.
Mr. William James “Bill” Alessini, a man whose laughter was as infectious as his charm, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2023, after a period of declining health. Born on Oct. 16, 1934, in Madera, California, Bill was a beacon of joy and generosity, lighting up every room he entered with his radiant smile and quick-witted humor.
Bill’s life was a testament to the power of hard work, resilience, and a good sense of humor. From his humble beginnings sweeping up at Madera Drugs and Barsotti Bakery at the tender age of seven, Bill’s entrepreneurial spirit quickly took root. After a stint delivering furniture for Jennings Brothers Furniture store during his teenage years, he found his calling in the fashion industry. As a partner in the former Duncan and Sheid Clothing Store in Madera, which later became the successful William Carol Fashions, Bill established a chain of 11 stores across the San Joaquin Valley. In addition, Bill was involved in farming and real estate investments. His uncanny sense of style was only surpassed by his knack for making people laugh, often stating, “Laughter is the best accessory you can wear!”
Alongside his successful career, Bill was a pillar of the Madera community. In earlier years he served 8 1/2 years in the California Army National Guard, He served on the Board of Directors of Regency Bank, The Board of the Madera Golf & Country Club, helped found the Madera Redevelopment Agency, and was president of the Madera Downtown Association multiple times. A former member of the Madera Jaycees, the 20-30 Club, The Kiwanis Club, The Lions Club, The Exchange Club, the Madera County Trade Club, The Madera Elks Lodge, The Cavalers Car Club of Fresno, and a member of the El Portola Ride of San Juan Capistrano.
