Letters: What is the point?
In a letter to the editor published by the Tribune on August 10, Frank Bradford has an excerpt of a letter written by someone called “Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Higginbotham,” whoever he is or was. The excerpt is about Kamala Harris and her parents.
Harris’ father, Donald J. Harris, was an immigrant from Jamaica who became a naturalized citizen, a graduate of U.C. Berkeley, and an economics professor at Stanford, who did research about income inequality. Harris’ mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was an immigrant from India who became a naturalized citizen, a graduate of U.C. Berkeley and had a 40-year career in medical research. Gopalan made important advances in breast cancer research.
Kamala Harris graduated from Howard University, attended U.C. Hastings College of Law, and became a lawyer. She was elected District Attorney of San Francisco in 2002 and re-elected in 2006. She was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016, and elected Vice President in 2020 on the Biden-Harris ticket. Harris is married to Doug Emhoff, a lawyer, and has two adopted children.
