Leach wins conference title
For The Madera Tribune
A happy Penelopi Leach celebrates a second straight team championship with her parents Lance and Barbara. The former Madera Coyote and current Vanguard athlete won the GSAC Heptathlon championship this year after finishing second the year before.
One year ago, walking out of the Westmont track and field awards ceremony, after placing second in the Women’s Heptathlon along and being a part of the first-ever Vanguard Women’s Golden State Athletic Conference Championship Team, Madera’s Penelopi Leach had one thing on her mind.
“I have been able to do a lot of amazing things in sports over my life, but that is my first real team championship,” she said.
Leach graduated from Madera as a four-year varsity athlete in soccer and track and field in 2020. She had her senior year track season cut because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
