Leach breaks record at Nationals

Former Madera Coyote Penelope Leach competes in the pentathlon for Vanguard at the Women’s Indoor Nationals last week. The senior set the school record she previously held, and placed 10th in the nation, just out of her goal of eighth place.
BROOKINGS, S.D. — Vanguard opened competition at the 2024 NAIA Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships, and a pair of school records fell to highlight the action last week.
Former Madera Coyote and Vanguard senior Penelopi Leach scored 3,331 points in the pentathlon to reestablish her own school record. Leach initially set the mark on February 9 with 3,258 points at the Sunshine Indoor Open.
Leach finished in 10th place among 16 entrants. She posted a career-best mark in four of the five contested events.
