Knights sweep Coyotes in CMAC

The Madera Coyotes boys volleyball team honored its 10 seniors before its match against the Bullard-Fresno Knights.


However, that was the peak as it was all downhill from there in a three-set loss in Joe Flores Gym on Thursday.


The Knights defeated the Coyotes 25-12 in all three sets.


Meanwhile, the the Coyotes put down just 12 kills in the match while Bullard put down 13 in the first set alone and 32 in the match.


The Coyotes fell behind quickly in the first set, 5-0.


The Coyotes got a pair of side outs, but the Knights increased their lead with a seven-point run for a 14-2 lead.


Matthew Carrera put down a side out kill and Chris Arias recorded a solo block for two points. Arias added another kill, but the Knights scored four straight points, with two coming on Madera out of bounds hits.


Diego Barriga served up an ace, but the Knights scored the next three points before a Jaden Gaeta kill.


Bullard hit out of bounds for a point, but got the side out with a kill. An ace led to set point. However, Bullard missed its serve for the side out, but Madera missed its serve for the set, 25-12.


Madera took its only lead after a Bullard service error on the first point of the second set.


Bullard scored the next eight points with three coming on aces for an 8-1 lead.


Gaeta put down two kills to cut the lead to 8-4. A Bullard ace led to a 10-4 lead.


Michael Cunningham put down a kill and Bullard hit out of bounds to cut the lead to 12-5.


However, a Madera missed serve led to nine straight Bullard points with two coming on kills and two coming on aces for a 21-7 lead.


Cunningham put down a kill and Eduardo Enriquez served up a point. Bullard got the side out and added a point.


Josh Landeros served up a point and Carrera put down a kill to cut the lead to 23-12.


Bullard got the side out and aced the Coyotes for a 25-12 win.


Behind side out kills from Landeros, Cunningham and Damian Bispham, the Coyotes trailed 9-5 in the third set.


The Knights scored the next eight points behind two blocks, three kills and three Madera errors for a 17-5 lead.


Angel Leon served up an ace in a four-point run. Arias also had a kill to help cut the lead to 17-9.


After three straight side outs, Bullard scored three straight points for a 22-10 lead. Bispham put down a side out kill, but the Knights scored the final two points of the match for a 25-12 win.
