The Madera Grapplers girls wrestling team gathers after competing in the California Girls Middle School State Wrestling Tournament in San Leandro. The Grapplers came away with two State Champions and three other medalists.Â
The Madera Grapplers, who are represented by female wrestlers from various schools within Madera Unified School District, traveled to San Leandro for the annual California Girls Middle School State Wrestling Tournament.Â
It’s one of the few all-girls events in the state. This tournament allows girls from sixth through eight grades, and draws some of the best wrestlers in the state.Â
The Grapplers, coached by Eddie Cortez, took nine girls to compete in the March 29 state tournament. After three rounds, four advanced to the finals and another advanced to the consolation championship.
