Stir fry some fresh green beans and roasted garlic in a bit of oil and soy sauce. Add some chopped pork, if desired, for a main dish.

Many people are busy harvesting all kinds of garden bounty and I envy their ability to grow things in the ground without every kind of wildlife creature eating it all.

For me, it’s the gophers.

We had so many holes in the ground around the house, the ground surface was caving in, making it dangerous to walk. My husband hooked a disc up to one of his tractors and eradicated all the holes and tunnels that were close to the surface. Doesn’t look so great having a yard of dust, but that’s how it goes.

I wish I could go back to the days when my dad would harvest buckets of produce, even though it meant my mom was going to have to do a lot of canning and freezing. I helped when I could. These days, I am limited to planting a container garden. My rhubarb needs to go in the ground, though, as the stalks are getting pretty spindly, probably from being container-bound.
