Founded in 1981, the organization is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, whose only aim is to help support the local library of Madera.

The FMCL Mission Statement is, “The Friends of the Madera County Library (FMCL) advocates for and assists in supporting Madera County Library programs and services, which collect, preserve, enhance, and build on the educational, societal, historical and cultural foundations of our community, ensuring information access for all.”
