In the annual girls volleyball battle between Madera and Madera South, tensions are high, play is elevated and the passion is clear.

That was the scene Tuesday during Madera’s 3-0 sweep over the Stallions. The Stallions gave their best effort of the season to try to give co-head coaches Sharalyn Hernandez and Karina Garcia their first win.

The Coyotes defeated the Stallions, but by only 14 points in the three sets. Madera South outhit the Coyotes 22-18, but also made twice as many errors, including hitting eight out of bounds.
