Madera’s Kylie Powell hits a fly ball to center to drive in a third inning run during Friday’s 16-2 rout of Justin Garza. Powell had two hits and drove in three runs in the game.

Using their speed to their advantage, the Madera Coyotes softball team sprinted out to an early lead, and put the game away with a 10-run fourth inning of a 16-2 five-inning rout over the Justin Garza Guardians on Friday at Zimmerman Field.

The Coyotes stole nine bases, picked up 14 hits, and took advantage of six Justin Garza errors for the County/Metro Athletic Conference victory. Seven of Madera’s runs were unearned.

Viviana Nombrano was solid in four innings. She struck out the side in the second, and nine overall, but also walked three batters. Jayleen Gutknecht allowed two runs in her lone inning of work.
