Madera’s Mia Roberts dribbles by a Fresno Christian defender to score the first of her two goals Tuesday afternoon in a 3-2 overtime victory.

A pair of goals from Mia Roberts gave the Madera Coyotes girls soccer team the cushion they needed in a battle with Fresno Christian in Memorial Stadium.

Roberts scored her first goal in the 13th minute in Tuesday’s match. She received a pass from Atiana Piñon from the middle. Roberts took the ball on the right to the goal. She shot inside the right post for the 1-0 lead.

Twelve minutes later, Piñon and Roberts connected again. Piñon fed Roberts the ball in front of the goal. Roberts dribbled by a defender and shot into the left side of the net for a 2-0 first half lead.

Fresno Christian added a goal from just outside the goalkeeper’s box into the right corner to cut the lead to one.

Fresno Christian tied the match with a goal in the second half.

However, Piñon scored the game-winning goal in the final seconds of the second half of overtime off an assist from Anissa Garcia.
