Coyotes fall in five sets to Caruthers
Wendy Alexander/The Madera Tribune
Madera’s Jania Warren gets a kill attempt past the block of Caruthers in Tuesday’s five-set loss. Warren led the Coyotes with 13 kills.
After losing the first set, the Madera Coyotes girls volleyball team stormed back to win the second two sets by a combined 50-34 score, but dropped the final two sets in a non-league match against the Caruthers Blue Raiders in Joe Flores Gym.
The Coyotes averted most of the mental errors that have plagued them early in the season during their set wins. However, it came to light at the end of the match where Caruthers recorded just five kills in the deciding set.
Madera even got to set point in the fourth set, leading 24-23, but a tip kill followed by a Caruthers kill evened the match at two set wins each.
