Coyotes advance with win over Hoover

Madera’s Marisol Alvarez rises up for a shot attempt Tuesday against the Hoover Patriots. Alvarez led the Coyotes with eight goals in the win.

 

The Madera Coyotes girls water polo team received eight goals from Marisol Alvarez to cruise to a 10-3 victory over the Hoover-Fresno Patriots to advance in the Div. III Central Section playoffs.


The fifth-seeded Coyotes scored five goals in the first half and five in the third period to cruise to the victory over No. 12 Hoover.


Madera took a 2-0 lead with two goals from Alvarez in the final two minutes of the first period. She added two more goals for a 4-0 lead before Hoover scored with 25 seconds left in the half.


Alvarez added another goal in the final seconds for a 5-1 halftime lead.


Alvarez scored 54 seconds into the second half to open a 7-1 lead. After Hoover scored a goal, Alvarez scored her eighth goal of the game.


Hoover added a pair of goals, but Brooklyn Reeves closed out the scoring with a pair of goals in the final two minutes of the period.


Both teams battled through a scoreless fourth period in the Coyotes’ win.


Madera battled No. 4 Centennial on Thursday in Bakersfield in the quarterfinals.
