Coyote comeback falls short

Madera’s Rylie Fernandez gets a shot off during Friday’s loss to Reedley. She sank Madera’s lone 3-pointer for three of her nine points.
A second half adjustment gave the Madera Coyotes girls basketball team a boost, but it wasn’t enough in a 40-32 non-conference loss to the Reedley Pirates in Joe Flores Gym.
Reedley jumped out to a 27-8 halftime lead before the Coyotes outscored the Pirates 24-13 in the second half.
“We played a little scared in the first half,” said first-year head coach Chamelle String. “The girls were nervous as heck. It was the first home game of the season, and their nerves got the best of them in the first half.”
