Christina Hutson was born Christina Mears in Wakefield, Massachusetts, in 1930.

She has one younger sister.

When war broke out in Europe, her father moved to the West Coast to be further away from the Germans. He was a machinist, so they went to the shipyards in Seattle, and then on down to San Pedro, California.
