Beware of resolutions

Just about every year, I make a New Year’s resolution. Sometimes I make more than one resolution, but I try always to resolve to do something that is doable and reasonable.

If I overload myself and plan something that is not practical, I know I will fail. And yet, I need to challenge myself to be better than I was before the crystal ball dropped in Times Square at midnight the night before.

Losing weight is a resolution many of us make. I’ve made that one from time to time in the past, but losing weight is something that is doable only if a whole new plan is made before New Year’s Eve. Also, I have found that New Year’s Day is not the best day for me to start a diet. It’s a holiday, and I usually have not yet eaten all the goodies in my house by that time. Sometimes it takes until Valentine’s Day to do that, and then wham! We’re starting over again.
