Bat and ball teams ready for playoffs

Liberty Hawks’ standout McGuire Smith will try to lead the Hawks to a second straight Div. IV Central Section championship when playoffs begin Tuesday. The Hawks received the No. 1 seed and will host Sunnyside on Tuesday.

The Madera-area baseball and softball teams finished up the regular season last week, and are now preparing for the Central Section playoffs. 

Both Madera Coyote baseball and softball team were moved into Div. I, although they will be playing on the road. Both Liberty baseball and softball teams will open at home, and the Matilda Torres baseball team earned the top seed in Div. V. 

Torres ended the regular season with a sweep over the Madera South Stallions. The Toros finished the regular season a 16-11 record and finished in a three-way tie for second in the North Yosemite League with Hoover and Sanger West.
