The Madera Rotary Club held a speech contest at its regular meeting last week.
There were three contestants, Jonathan Barriga, Jazzy Duque, and Isaiah Hernandez, from Juvenal Hall’s Endeavor/Voyager Secondary School competing for the prize during the Tuesday meeting.
The contest was introduced by Rotarian Jim Garrison, who explained that this competition is the local one, and then the winner will go to the next level to compete on February 19, for the area contest, which will be held at the Municipal Golf Course. He asked the audience not to applaud for each speaker, but instead wait until all had finished their speeches.
