Madera American 9-10 beats fellow all-star team

SELMA — The Madera American 9-10-year-old All-Star baseball team faced a familiar foe to open the District 10 All-Star tournament.
The all-stars faced the second Madera American 9-10-year-old All-Star team and came away with a 16-4 victory Saturday at Selma Little League.
The Madera American 1 team, coached by Thomas Ruiz, advanced to a second round match-up with the Madera National 2 team.
Madera American defeated Madera National 12-2 on Sunday and played at Sunnyside on Tuesday Meanwhile, the Madera American 2 team, coached by Vanessa Reyes, lost to Madera National 1 team on Sunday and advanced to the special consolation bracket on Tuesday.
The Madera American 1 team scored seven runs in the second inning, added seven more in the third and two in the fourth for a win.
Brendan Gustafson pitched 1 1/3 innings and picked up the victory. He allowed four unearned runs with three strikeouts.
David Moles led Madera American 1 with three hits. He hit two triples with two runs and three RBIs. Nathan Gray with 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a triple and an RBI.
Malachi Watson went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Jordan Galindo and Harnoor Hans also had two hits while Hans scored three runs.
Madera American 2 banged out just three hits in the loss. Ezekiel Reyes had two of them and drove in two of the four runs. Deegan Shandoor had the other hit and scored a run.
Madera American 1 scored seven runs while sending 12 batters to the plate, led by Moles’ three-run triple, his second triple of the inning. Madera American 2 came back with four runs in the bottom of the inning, capped by a Reyes two-run single.
Madera American 1 sent 11 more batters to the plate in the third inning, highlighted by a three-run single by Gustafson.
Nathan Gray hit an RBI triple in the fourth and scored on a wild pitch for the 16-4 victory. Madera American 14, Reedley 12
The Madera American 10-11-yard-old All-Star team came from behind and held off a late charge from Reedley for a 14-12 victory in the first round of the District 10 Tournament on Sunday in Reedley.
Madera American continues in the tournament and played at Selma on Monday with their next game today to be announced.
Madera American opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the first inning. However, Reedley came back to score five runs in the bottom of the first and took a 7-4 lead with two more runs in the second.
Madera American came back after three hits in the third and a three-run home run from Josh Alvarez to give Madera American an 8-7 lead.
Madera American added to its lead with a double from Joseph Bass and a two-run single from Noah Castro to extend the lead to five.
In the bottom of the fifth, Reedley cut the lead with three runs in the fifth, highlighted by three Madera American errors for a 12-10 Madera American lead.
Madera American’s first four batters of the sixth reached base and two walks and a single drove in five runs for a 15-10 lead.
Reedley came back behind a walk and back-to-back two-out doubles to cut the lead to three. Abel Martinez closed the game by inducing a groundout to end the game.
