Emmy Award-winning actor Ed Asner to visit Madera today

"The Mary Tyler Moore Show" co-star Ed Asner, top center, will be speaking to local students this evening about a docudrama on the sinking of the RMS Titanic.
Actor Ed Asner, winner of five Golden Globes and seven Primetime Emmy Awards, will visit Madera South High School and the Madera Community College Center today to discuss his REELZ Channel docudrama, “Titanic: Sinking The Myths,” portions of which were filmed in Madera County.
At MSHS, Asner will meet with Madera Unified School District drama students who wish to pursue an acting and entertainment career.
The docudrama features a score of local Madera County student actors, as well as other local talents. Producer-writer Ryan Katzenbach used the casting skills of Madera South High School theater teacher Ginger Latimer of Madera and her students. While portions of the film were shot in Los Angeles, the reenacted Titanic footage was filmed at a ranch in Madera County where Ryan and his team recreated sections of the Titanic ship. Over 30 Madera South Theatre Company students made appearances in the film, as well as MSHS drama alumni, three Fresno musicians, and instructors at MSHS/Fresno City College/Fresno State University professors.
The docudrama dives into the political and economic factors of 1912 that led to the RMS Titanic passenger liner disaster after it collided with an iceberg on its maiden voyage, killing more than 1,500. Starring alongside Asner is actress Frances Fisher, who starred in James Cameron’s 1997 film “Titanic” playing Rose’s mother Ruth Dewitt Bukater. Rose was portrayed by Kate Winslet.
Asner is perhaps best known as co-star on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" (1970-1977) but has also starred in a variety of TV and feature film roles.
