Old Timers activities at a glance

The annual Old Timers celebration has returned in Madera once more. Below are some of the activities going on this week.
The Whiskerino Posse will be out to arrest any beardless gentlemen and women without western wear today and Thursday (Sept. 21 and 22) from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Call Old Timers celebration chairman at 394-4402 to request a hoosegow arrest. “Stay Out of Jail” buttons will be sold for $5 each will be available at the Madera County Historical Society Museum, Chamber of Commerce and the Madera County Board of Supervisor’s Office.
City-County Old Timer’s Costume Contest will be judged on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 10 a.m.
Old Timer’s Day in the Park booth spaces for food and crafts are available by contacting Winslow. Applications are also available at the museum and the Madera Chamber of Commerce website.
Old Timers Day Parade will be 10 a.m. Saturday in downtown Madera. Judging for the “longest beard,” shortest beard,” “mustache only,” and the “most unique,” will take place in Courthouse Park after the Old Timers parade Saturday.
The museum will be open directly after the parade Saturday (about noon) until 3 p.m.
Old Timers BBQ by the Madera Breakfast Lions will be 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Courthouse Park. Tri-tip barbecue sandwiches, beans and salad will be $10 for ages 12 and up and $6 for those under 12. Funds to benefit Lions and community projects.
