Elks to host annual Dinner for Dictionaries
The Madera Elks Lodge will host its annual Dinner for Dictionaries on Friday, Sept. 2, to raise funds for the purchase of volumes of “The Best Dictionary for Students.”
The Elks will distribute the dictionaries to third-grade students in elementary schools throughout the county.
Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., and includes tri-tip, ham hock and beans, poppy slaw salad, a roll and dessert. Tickets are $10. For those who cannot stay, take-outs are available from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The lodge is at 112 W. 6th St.
Elks dictionary project coordinator Timi Milor said people who have a child, grandchild or a friend’s child in the third grade should purchase a ticket so every student can receive a dictionary.
Depending on the amount of funds raised, dictionaries will be distributed to students at 25 local schools, including public, private and charter schools.
Since 2007, Madera Elks Lodge No 1918 has pledged its support to the Dictionary Project, Milor said, and will continue to personally hand out to each 3rd grader “The Best Dictionary for Students.”
Those wanting to help the young students may purchase tickets or for more information call the Lodge at 673-1918 or Timi Milor at 474-9669. Donations can be by cash or check with checks payable to Madera Elks Dictionary Fund.
