The public is invited to join Carol Moses, candidate for Madera County Superior Court, Seat #2, at the launch of her campaign on Wednesday, Feb. 21, from 5-7 p.m. at the Madera County Arts Council’s Circle Gallery.
Moses, an attorney, has the endorsement of The Honorable Charles A. Wieland, to fill his seat when he retires this summer. She also has been endorsed by retired Sheriff John Anderson, the Madera County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association and the Madera Police Officers’ Association.
The position will likely be decided at the June 5th election.
For almost two decades, Moses served as a Federal law enforcement officer in Yosemite National Park. In addition to helping keep the peace, she worked on search and rescue teams, fought wildland fires, was a Park Medic and had resource management responsibilities.
During her time with the National Park Service, she attended Fresno State where she graduated Cum Laude in agricultural business, and San Joaquin College of Law where she received her Juris Doctorate.
Sworn into the California Bar Association in 1993, Moses has operated her own law firm since 1998 with most of her work in Madera, Mariposa and Fresno counties as well as Yosemite National Park.
Much of Ms. Moses’ law practice is in Federal court and she currently serves as a Lawyer Representative for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She has served on a number of judicial panels, councils and committees.
“I am passionate about justice,” she said, “and I am committed to the Rule of Law. I believe everyone is entitled to due process and fair treatment.”
Moses said she is also passionate about education and has chaired Law Day in Yosemite National Park for the last five years. Each year the event brings children from throughout the area into the park to hear speakers on legal topics. It also includes an essay contest for students from schools in Yosemite gateway communities.
An avid backpacker and runner, Moses has completed more than 30 marathons and each summer hikes across the Sierra from Tuolumne Meadows to Devil’s Postpile in one day.
She serves as Treasurer for the Madera County Art Council’s Board of Directors and is on the Board of Directors for the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust.
