Tim was born on Dec. 24,1946, in Fresno, California and after a brief illness he passed away on Aug. 9, 2026 in Fresno, California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tim was a very giving and kind person. He gave to many charities and fund raisers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He would always donate blood to those he knew that needed it and the regular blood bank drives. He would sometimes give blood on his lunch hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tim was a very private person and kept his kindness to himself, never wanting recognition. Tim was also an animal lover, especially dogs. Through the years, he adopted many dogs. He would always leave a water bowl on the porch for stray dogs. Some of them stayed at this forever home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All of these wonderful things he gave from his heart. Tim loved to read books, sometimes reading one to three books a week. Going to the Mariposa Library book sale was a fun day for him and his wife. He also loved genealogy, going back centuries, and helping other people that were interested in it. He was also very proud of his Scottish heritage and enjoyed attending the Scottish games. Tim graduated from Fresno High School then started college at Fresno State. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
From there he enlisted in the Army and spent one year in the states and served in Germany for three years. When he was discharged, he returned to college earning a degree in math and started working for Madera County in 1973 and worked for the county for 36 years and made many friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tim is survived by his wife Pamela Murray, his sister Suzanne and her husband Rick Underwood, of Danville, California, his sister Kathleen Rivoir of Fresno, California, two nieces, two great nieces, 2 nephews, 2 great nephews, grand children and great children. He is preceded in death by his father Winslow Murray, his Mother Maribell Murray, and his brother-in-law Donald Revoir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He will be greatly missed by those who love him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mary Virginia Flores, age 92, passed away on Aug. 17, 2026, in Raymond, California. She was born on Jan. 22, 1934, in Oklahoma, and lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and quiet strength. Mary will be remembered by all who knew her as a loving, gentle, and kind woman whose presence brought comfort and warmth to her family and friends.\u2028\u2028Mary was the daughter of Elmer Lee Ford and Dora Beatrice (Coffee) Ford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Rudy Flores, as well as her three brothers and three sisters, Herbert Ford, Bernis Ford, Eddie Ford, Beverly Cannon, Elizabeth Cole and Wynema Sourk. Family was always at the center of Mary\u2019s life, and she carried deep love for those closest to her throughout her years.\u2028\u2028She is survived by her children, Randy Flores, Rodney Flores, and Karen Flores, who were a source of great pride and joy in her life. She is also survived by her two sisters, Dorothy Brown and Judy Tucker, and by her two grandchildren, who brought her happiness and many cherished moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mary treasured her family deeply and especially loved spending time with her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, whose lives she touched with her steady affection and caring spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2028\u2028Mary worked as a nurse for the Veterans Administration, where her compassion and dedication were evident in the care she gave to others. Her work reflected the same gentle nature she carried into every part of her life. She served others with patience and grace, and her years in nursing stood as a testament to her generous heart and strong sense of duty.\u2028\u2028Outside of her work, Mary enjoyed many simple pleasures that brought her happiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was an avid Raiders football fan and followed the team with enthusiasm. She loved the outdoors and found joy in watching the wild life around her home. She also enjoyed collecting Miss Piggy memorabilia, a hobby that reflected her playful side and appreciation for small treasures. She created memory books of her times traveling and places she had been. Above all, Mary valued family time and the moments shared with those she loved most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2028\u2028Mary Virginia Flores leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and kindness. Her life was one of faithfulness to her family, service to others, and appreciation for the everyday joys that made life meaningful. Those who knew her will remember her warm smile, her gentle manner, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Catherine \u201cCathy\u201d Barboza, born on May 6, 1944, passed away after a brief illness on August 23, 2026, with her sister, niece and nephew at her bedside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She attended St. Joachim\u2019s Grammar School, graduating in 1958 as the first graduating class at the new St. Joachim\u2019s Catholic Church. She attended Madera Union High School, graduating with the class of 1962. She attended Fresno City College for two years, receiving her AA degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cathy began working at Madera County Hospital, staying there for two years prior to it changing to the Madera Health Department. She then stayed with Madera Health Department for 40 years as one of their Account Clerks. She was lovingly known there as \u201cLa Weta,\u201d her light hair and blue eyes standing out to all who met her. She could always be seen riding her three-wheeler bike back and forth to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cathy was an avid reader, a true John Grisham enthusiast. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Nebraska, the VFW auxiliary in Madera, and the Elks Lodge in Madera. She had a passion for Mariachi music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cathy was preceded in death by her son Albert Joseph Barboza, her first husband Alberto Barboza, parents Isidore, Sr. and Annie T. Cereghino Gutierrez, brothers Isidore \u201cButch\u201d Gutierrez and Paul Steve Gutierrez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She is survived by her sister Madeline Garibay of Madera, niece Catherine Rodriguez and husband Danny of Madera, nephew Felipe Magos, Jr. and wife Michelle of Madera, niece Tanya Gutierrez-Cam of Madera, niece Becky Gutierrez of Madera, niece Annie Gutierrez of Atwater, great-nephews and great-nieces, Daniel Rodriguez (Monique Ayala) of Madera, Anthony Rodriguez (Elizabeth Mesa) of Madera, Victoria Rodriguez (Chance Meverden) of Madera, Atticus Magos (Valerie Momongan) of San Dimas, Paul Magos and Isabella Magos of Madera, Baylie Toney of Modesto, Lynnlee and Walker Cam, both of Madera, great-great-nephews, Daniel Michael Rodriguez, Anthony Rodriguez, Jr., and Keanu Rodriguez, her sister-in-law Lori Gutierrez, her long-time companion Daniel Alcaraz for more than 20 years, 17 years spent with him in Nebraska, and his sons \u201cDanny Boy,\u201d Jaime, Raymond, and Robert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Visitation will be on Monday, Aug. 31, 2026, at Jay Chapel from 3 to 6 p.m. The Rosary will be on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, at St. Joachims Church in Madera, at 9 a.m., with the Burial Mass following at 9:30. Graveside service will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Madera. Reception will follow at the VFW Hall in Madera at noon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lifelong Madera resident Philip Oberti passed away on August 19 at the age of 83.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oberti and Klina Lyon were married for 61 years and were recently lauded by Madera for their longtime support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Phil and Klina Oberti were married in 1965, and since then, Philip has been working to help Madera grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two years ago, Philip and Klina were honored as Old Timers\u2019 Day Grand Marshals. Last year, the couple were named Lifetime Achievement Award recipients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are honored,\u201d Phil said in a 2024 interview. \u201cWe feel like a lot of other people deserved it before us. We\u2019ve traveled a lot. It\u2019s always nice to come back to Madera where your roots are. They will always be here. Our roots will end up in Arbor Vitae. I hope they keep the water going.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the Obertis weren\u2019t sure they were eligible to receive the honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe didn\u2019t realize how old we were,\u201d Phil said. \u201cWe are honored. I\u2019m 81 and she\u2019s 79. We didn\u2019t expect or even think we would get it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oberti, who grew up around the Oberti Olive plant, went away from the ranch. He transitioned to commercial properties with holdings in Madera and Fresno. His reach went as far north to San Francisco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over time, Philip Oberti was a member of a lot of committees with a common denominator \u2014 growing Madera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI was a member of the Madera City Planning Commission when I lived in town,\u201d Phil said. \u201cI was a member of the Madera Parking Commission. I was a member of the Madera Rotary and the Madera Community Hospital Board. I was on the Cal Poly School of Business Advisory Council, and an honorary alumnus in 1991. I\u2019m a member of the Madera Downtown Association and the Madera Elks Lodge. I go to the Downtown Association every once in a while.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of Oberti\u2019s biggest goals was to revitalize Downtown Madera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen we grew up, downtown was a neat place to go,\u201d he said. \u201cThen, the shopping centers went in. This downtown has been a lot of work. I was a founding director of the Downtown Association. We\u2019ve tried to revitalize downtown. We are trying to have something like Visalia and Clovis. There are a lot of consultants involved.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was a founding member of the Madera Downtown Association and consistently supported the City\u2019s downtown improvement efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the City collaborating with Caltrans\u2019 upcoming plans to redesign East Yosemite with roundabouts and improved sidewalks, Oberti sees a strong opportunity for fa\u00e7ade enhancements and a unified color scheme \u2014 efforts that could give downtown Madera a fresh identity and vibrant new energy.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

The Liberty Hawks football team officially christened its \u201cHome Away From Home\u2019 with a convincing 37-7 victory over the Strathmore Spartans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Liberty\u2019s home stadium is getting new turf and an all-weather track installed, so the Hawks will play their home games at Madera South High School. The Hawks treated their new home stadium with a convincing victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hawks dominated on offense and defense. Four missed extra points was the only thing head coach Mike Nolte could complain about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Liberty rushed for 345 yards, including an even 200 yards rushing by junior Henry Bilskey. It was the most yards rushing in a season opener in school history. The Hawks scored all six touchdowns from the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Liberty defense was equally dominant, allowing just 115 yards of offense, including -1 yards passing. Strathmore averaged 3.4 yards per rush, but also had 38 rushing yards at a loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Liberty defensive front had its way with the Spartan line. The line of Deegan Shandor, Brody Sisco and Felipe Chavarria combined for 13 tackles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overall, Strathmore averaged 3.5 yards per play while the Hawks, with 419 total yards, averaged 10.7 yards per play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Until Strathmore\u2019s 80-yard fourth quarter drive against the Liberty reserves, the Spartans had just 35 yards of offense compared to 60 penalty yards against the Hawks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Spartans had to punt on their opening drive of the game. Tyler McCamey returned the kick 30 yards to the Strathmore 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
McCamey gave the Hawks first-and-goal with a 15-yard run. Bilskey took the ball to the one. Tristan Ruiz went up the middle to score Liberty\u2019s first touchdown for a 6-0 lead four minutes into the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tackles by Shandor and Chavarria resulted in no gains, and the Spartans punted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After a 15-yard penalty, Liberty started at the Strathmore 24. Bilskey gained 10 on second-and-14, and quarterback Brody Von Flue gained five for the first down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two plays later, Bilskey broke off a 44-yard gain off the right side on a counter play to the Strathmore 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two plays later, Von Flue found Ayden Wilhelm for a 13-yard pass, but a fumble, and a Strathmore recovery, ended the drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, on the next play, Strathmore had trouble with the hand-off, and put the ball on the ground. Shandor jumped on it for the recovery at the five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bilskey got the carry off the left side. But, he fumbled just before the end zone. The ball bounced into the end zone, and McCamey jumped on it for the touchdown, and a 12-0 lead with 1:31 left in the first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After another three-and-out, the Hawks went on a seven-play, 56-yard drive for another score. Von Flue found Bilskey for a 10-yard gain. Then, Bilskey broke off a 19-yard gain to get inside the Strathmore 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three plays later, Bilskey found the end zone for an 18-0 lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shandor opened the next drive with a sack, but the Spartans got a first down. Strathmore had a nine-play drive, but it only went for 21 yards before punting on fourth-and-13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the next play, on another counter, Bilskey went behind his big offensive line, found a hole, juked a tackler at the 40, and went 77 yards into the end zone for a 25-0 lead after the extra point, with 1:54 left in the half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the half, the Hawks had 240 total yards while Strathmore only had 52 yards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hawks opened the second half with an eight-play, 74-yard drive to find the end zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ruiz started the drive with a 15-yard burst up the middle. Von Flue found Wilhelm for 19-yards to get into Strathmore territory. McCamey gained 11 to move the ball inside the 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three plays later, after a holding penalty, Bilskey found pay dirt for the second time for a 31-0 lead with 1:58 left in the third quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Spartans had another three-and-out, highlighted by a run for a loss of two on a tackle by Nick Yrlas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Liberty opened the drive with a 32-yard pass play to McCamey, but the play was called back by a penalty. However, Von Flue found Austin Graham for a 23-yard gain, and a first down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then, it was a combination of Bilskey, McCamey and Ruiz to get the ball to the 25-yard line. Benni Loubandith got the carry up the middle, found a huge hole, and the end zone for a 25-yard touchdown run with a minute left in the third for a 37-0 lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Liberty got good field position after a punt snap went over the punter\u2019s head, but the Hawks settled for a field goal that hit the crossbar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Matilda Torres Toros flag football team was ready to open the season after scrimmaging Golden Valley-Merced earlier, and now played them in its season opener at Toros Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, four interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown hurt the Toros in an 18-13 loss Thursday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Toros had two chances to score inside the Golden Valley 10-yard line in the second half to take the lead, but turned the ball over on downs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Torres outgained Golden Valley 230-192. They limited the Cougars to just 48 yards on 18 rushes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Torres threw for 167 yards, and rushed for 69 yards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amerie Lujan caught three passes for 61 yards and had two long punt returns to set the Toros up in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Golden Valley opened the game by gaining an initial first down on a pass play. Then, they threw down the middle. The Golden Valley receiver made an over-the-shoulder fingertip grab, and ran the rest of the way for a 38-yard touchdown. The point after failed, but Golden Valley led 6-0 with 8:22 left in the first quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It took the Toros\u2019 offense four plays answer the Cougars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On third-and-18, Adalynn Chavez hit Isabella Perez on a crossing pattern. She broke open, and outran the Cougars\u2019 defense for a 58-yard touchdown catch-and-run. Crystal Galicia ran in the one-point conversion for a 7-6 lead with five minutes left in the first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Torres defense forced a punt, but the Toros threw an interception three plays later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cougars went on a 12-play drive to get them inside the 10-yard line. However, Jasmin Fernandez sacked the Golden Valley quarterback on fourth-and-eight to turn the ball over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, on the next play, Golden Valley picked off Torres at the 10, and ran it into the end zone for a touchdown for a 12-7 lead with six minutes left in the half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Toros got a 25-yard pass play from Galicia to Lujan off a tipped pass to get the ball deep into Golden Valley territory. A seven-yard pass to Fernandez, and a six-yard run by Galicia moved the ball to the six, but a fourth down interception stopped the drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With time winding down in the half, Golden Valley got a 13-yard pass play and a 15-yard run to get near midfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then, Golden Valley connected on a long pass down the right sideline for a 30-yard touchdown for an 18-7 lead with nine seconds left in the half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the first play of the second half, Torres was intercepted. But, the Torres defense stepped up, and forced a punt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A 21-yard run by Galicia moved the ball inside the Golden Valley 20. Galicia gained nine on third-and-goal from the 17, but an incomplete pass turned the ball over on downs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Toros\u2019 defense forced a punt after a third down pass break-up by Jocelynn Galindo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lujan set the Toros up with a 28-yard punt return to the Golden Valley 27. Chavez hit Lujan for 13-yards for a first down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three plays later, Chavez hit Karina Contreras wide open in the corner of the end zone on the final play of the third quarter to cut the lead to 18-13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two quarterback sacks by Jazmine Garcia forced another Golden Valley punt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lujan got the Toros to the 23-yard line with a punt return. The Toros got a first down, but an illegal block forced the Toros back and an incomplete pass turned the ball over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Torres defense stepped up to force another punt. Lujan returned the punt 40 yards to the Golden Valley 20 with time running out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chavez passes to Galicia and Contreras moved the ball to the six, but an incomplete pass on fourth down turned the ball over on downs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Madera Coyotes scored early and often in a dominating 62-21 victory over the Justin Garza Guardians in the season opener at Koligian Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Coyotes scored on their first play of the game and scored on their final playoff the third quarter before a running clock and two garbage-time touchdowns by Garza resulted in Friday\u2019s score.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Coyotes scored six rushing touchdowns in gaining 364 yards in just three quarters. They also scored on a kickoff return and a punt block returned for a touchdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sophomore running back Anthony Estrada rushed for 130 yards on nine carries. Backfield-mate Darius Smith rushed for 112 yards with three total touchdowns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Quarterback Elias Mena rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown, and Sebastian Owens gained 68 yards on four carries, including a 53-yard run on his first touch, through three quarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through three quarters, the Coyotes outgained the Guardians, 418-244. That also included a 61-yard reception, and a 68-yard touchdown catch. Take those two plays, the Guardians only gained 115 yards through three quarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Madera also took advantage of great field position to score on all nine of its drive. Madera\u2019s average start was at their own 41. Meanwhile, Garza had to start at its own 25-yard line with nothing within their own 34-yard line in the first three quarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Coyote defense was also tough. They picked off Garza twice and allowed just 2.5 yards a rush. In fact, of Garza\u2019s first 40 plays, 10 went for negative yards, and another six went for two or less yards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After getting an initial first down, the Coyote defense stepped to force a punt. On third-and-two, Xsavier Elenes broke through for a two-yard loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the first play from scrimmage to open his sophomore season, Estrada found a huge hole up the middle, and split the Guardians\u2019 defense. He outran the Guardian backfield for a 77-yard touchdown run. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Carlos Ochoa made eight-of-nine point afters for a 7-0 lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Garza came back with a 68-yard pass play over the Madera defense for a touchdown, the kick was missed, and Madera led 7-6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the ensuing kick-off, Smith picked up a bouncing ball at the 27, after Garza was penalized twice. He went up the middle, untouched, 73-yards into the end zone for a 14-7 lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Garza got an initial first down, but faced a fourth-and-16 from their own 26. Jayden Martinez pushed back his blocker, jumped, and blocked the punt. A.J. Chavez was at the right place at the right time. He caught the blocked ball at the 15 and ran it into the end zone for another touchdown, and a 21-6 lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Guardians completed a 61-yard pass to get to the Madera five-yard line. A dropped snap moved them back 10 yards, and two incomplete passes turned the ball over on downs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After 23 snaps, the Coyotes took their second snap of the game, and Estrada gained 10 for a first down. After a holding penalty, Estrada gained 10 and Mena found Martinez for 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mena hit White for nine yards to open the second quarter. White then went around the left side, taking the option pitch for 27 yards. Mena then hit White in the flat on the left for another 14 yards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Facing a fourth-and-10 from the 18, Mena went back to pass, and didn\u2019t find anyone open. However, what he found was a lane down the left sideline. He found his way into the end zone, untouched, for a touchdown to cap a 10-play, 89 yard drive for a 28-6 lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After a sack by Brian Guzman, Garza got off a 13-yard punt. Mena converted a fourth-and-eight with a 16-yard QB keeper for a first down. Three plays later, White found the end zone for a 35-6 lead with 3:54 left in the half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Madera defense got in on the dominance. Guzman and Brian Qualls combined on a quarterback sack. Martinez got his first sack for a loss of nine. On the next play, Lawrence Flores stepped in front of a Garza pass for an interception. He returned it 19 yards to the four-yard line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two plays later, Martinez, out of the wildcat formation, scored off the right side for a 42-6 lead with 1:22 left in the half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Estrada opened the second half with an 11-yard gain and a 10-yard gain. Mena gained nine and Estrada gained eight. A face mask penalty moved the ball to the 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A bad snap lost 15 yards. On the next play, Mena threw a back shoulder pass in the end zone. Flores turned in front of his defender to make the catch past the left pylon for a 49-6 lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Four plays later, Bubba Layton picked off a Garza pass at the Madera 40 to give the Coyotes a possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
White got the hand-off, stuttered at the line, and cut to his right. He wasn\u2019t touched on his way to a 60-yard touchdown, and a 56-6 lead with 6:57 left in the third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Garza put together a drive with a 29-yard pass play to get into Madera territory. Elenes stuffed Garza for a loss of two on third down, and a fourth down pass fell incomplete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On his first carry of the game, Owens went through a huge hole in the middle of the line for a 53-yard gain. Three plays later, Owens went off the left side for a three-yard touchdown, and a 62-6 lead with 24 seconds left in the third quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump, lost re-election in 2020 by more than 7 million popular votes and by 51.3 percent to 46.8 percent in the GOP-favoring Electoral College. He also lost in sixty court cases, including before the United States Supreme Court, in his efforts to prove that election fraud prevented his re-anointment. Why? Each of the judges said, \u201cNO FACTS.\u201d Attorney General Bill Barr testified under oath that he told Trump in 2020 that the DOJ found no proof to support the Trump claim that the 2020 election was stolen from him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Senate Republicans issued a 2019-2020 report concluding that foreign attempts to influence American elections had failed. No voting machines were manipulated. No votes were changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tampering with voting machines to change the outcome of an election is nearly impossible. The hacking of voting machines requires physical access to each machine, precinct by precinct, community by community, state by state. And then there are paper records of votes and verifiable audits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Who has been supporting the Trump conspiracy lies? As noted by GOVTRACK.us recently, \u201c Fox News agreed to pay voting machine maker Dominion nearly $1 billion in 2023 to settle a defamation lawsuit over Fox personalities\u2019 extensive fabrications that Dominion machines flipped votes from Trump to Biden in 2020. Newsmax settled with Smartmatic, another voting machine maker, and admitted it lied about the company\u2019s machines and ties to Venezuela. Smartmatic also won a similar case against Mike Lindell and MyPillow for their lies and is in ongoing litigation with Fox.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sadly, Trump, in addition to his speeches intentionally undermining America\u2019s belief in election security, has directly reduced America\u2019s ability to defend itself from those who, like him, try to interfere with the sanctity of our vote. He fired all the commissioners of the U. S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), the commission tasked to work with states to enhance election security. Trump cut funding and refuses to fill the director position of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) within Homeland Security. The CISA provides cybersecurity support to state and local elections offices. Trump also closed the Foreign Influence Task Force at the Department of Justice. And yet he still practices the Art of the Squeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Not only are there no facts supporting the Trump lies of successful foreign vote tampering, but there are also no facts supporting claims of widespread noncitizen voting. The U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services wrote in 2024 that \u201cit is extremely uncommon for noncitizens to vote in federal elections.\u201d The Department of Homeland Security has found no evidence of widespread noncitizen voting. The Center for Election Innovation & Research says that existing election safeguards work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But Trump the Whiner is pushing the voter suppression bill, The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act). The California GOP is pushing a similarly unneeded constitutional amendment, Prop 39, that Attorney General Rob Bonta \u201cbig and beautifully\u201d titles \u201cProhibits Citizens from Voting Unless They Present Government Issued Identification.\u201d (Republicans are calling \u201cfoul.\u201d Apparently, only they get to creatively characterize proposed laws.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n The proposed laws are expensive, sloppy purported cures for a nonexistent disease. Trumpers say, \u201cSo? Why not pass it? Better safe than sorry.\u201d I say to them, \u201cWhy don\u2019t you get a lobotomy? An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Existing election safeguards work.
