{"id":8163,"date":"2019-02-06T23:35:01","date_gmt":"2019-02-06T23:35:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maderatribustg.wpenginepowered.com\/?p=8163"},"modified":"2026-05-13T18:30:02","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T18:30:02","slug":"hawk-grapplers-capture-first-nsl-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maderatribune.com\/es\/hawk-grapplers-capture-first-nsl-title\/","title":{"rendered":"Hawk grapplers capture first NSL title"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"8163\" class=\"elementor elementor-8163\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1b2afbb7 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"1b2afbb7\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-234b9391 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"234b9391\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>For the first time since 2006, the Liberty Hawks wrestling team captured the league champinoship after a dominating performance at the North Sequoia League championship tournament.<\/p><p>The Hawks, who previously won in the Northwest Sierra League, outpointed Washington Union-Easton 223-164 to capture the program\u2019s first NSL championship on Jan. 30 at Yosemite High School.<\/p><p>\u201cMuch of the credit goes to assistant coach Joe Rico and the Liberty High School administration,\u201d head coach Jay Pumarejo.<\/p><p>The team dominated the dual meet season, going 5-0, and outpinted its opponents by a combined 302-87 (60.4-17.4 average) and continued the trend in the NSL tournament.<\/p><p>Seven wrestlers, out of 14 weight classes, advanced to the championships with Angel Lugo, at 220 pounds, and Francisco Rojas, heavyweight, capturing their second straight NSL titles.<\/p><p>Cole Diebert (113 pounds), Zack Santoro (126 pounds) and Jarred Dotson (138 pounds) also won NSL championships.<\/p><p>All 14 wrestlers placed third or better for the Hawks. Conner Hiatt (145 pounds) and Chris Imirian (170 pounds) advanced to the finals, but lost.<\/p><p>Anthony Rocha (108 pounds), Anthony Salas (132), Gio Burgess (152), Diego Rojas (160), Sam Rauschenberg (182) and David Portnoff (195) each won consolation championships (third place).<\/p><p>In addition, Brad Wallace won a junior varsity championship while Mitchel Sano and Nolan Sewell placed second and Dylan Cardoza was third.<\/p><p>The Hawks wrestle this weekend in the Div. IV championship at Sierra Pacific High School in Hanford.<\/p><p>Madera and Madera South wrestlers battle in the Div.
