After trailing 2-0 in against Buhach Colony, the Madera South softball team erased the deficit in the fifth inning and took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.<\/p>

<\/p>

The comeback effort, however, wasn\u2019t enough for a win. Buhach came back with a rally of its own in the top of the seventh for a 4-3 victory Wednesday afternoon at Madera South.<\/p>

<\/p>

\u201cI was very proud of their effort. They worked hard, they never gave up. They were positive throughout the game,\u201d Madera South head coach Peter Gallegos said.<\/p>

With the Stallions trailing 2-0 in the fifth inning, Madera South\u2019s Mariah Williams stepped up to the plate to drive in the two tying runs. She hit a short liner that short-hopped the second baseman to drive in a runner from third. An errant throw to third allowed the trying run to score.<\/p>

<\/p>

The home team then took a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning when sophomore Isabel DelRio took advantage of the Thunder\u2019s error and dashed home from third base.<\/p>

After Williams struck out two batters to start the seventh inning, the Thunder found their rhythm again and loaded the bases.<\/p>

<\/p>

The Stallions committed a costly error that allowed a runner to score from third base to give the Thunder a 4-3 lead.<\/p>

<\/p>

Anna Garcia started in the circle for Madera South in Wednesday\u2019s game. The senior pitched two innings and allowed one run before she was replaced by Williams. Pitching the rest of the game, Williams allowed seven hits and struck out five.<\/p>

\u201cMariah did a great job. She always works hard for us,\u201d Gallegos said. \u201cOf course we had Anna Garcia coming in at the beginning, getting them off balance and then we bring Mariah in to keep us close and everything. She was phenomenal.\u201d<\/p>

<\/p>

Gallegos continues to encourage his team to keep fighting no matter what the scoreboard says.<\/p>
