I wasn\u2019t real pleased with the way we came out Monday,\u201d Liberty head coach Mario Cosma said. \u201cIt was a great response today. The guys played really well.\u201d<\/p><p>Hawks\u2019 starting pitcher Gage Arter went the whole way, allowing five hits and striking out seven batters. It was Arter\u2019s second complete game of the season.<\/p><p>\u201cMy arm feels good,\u201d Arter said. \u201cIt\u2019s about midseason form, getting ready for the home stretch.\u201d<\/p><p>The Hawks avenged another brutal loss earlier in the season, when they lost 24-2 against Yosemite on March 20, then beat the same team twice in a span of eight days by a combined 41-8.<\/p><p>\u201cComing back from a loss and winning after getting our butts kicked is a great feeling,\u201d Arter said. \u201cIt sets the attitude for the team and gets everybody ready for the next.\u201d<\/p><p>In Thursday\u2019s win against Washington Union, senior Bradley Moon led the Hawks with two RBIs. Moon\u2019s first RBI in the third inning gave the Hawks a 5-0 lead and his second made it 6-0 in the fifth.<\/p><p>Senior Colton Cardoza also continued to build on his strong season, getting two hits and scoring two runs.<\/p><p>\u201cI\u2019ve been seeing the ball really well lately,\u201d Cardoza said. \u201cIt\u2019s coming through finally. It\u2019s my senior year and it\u2019s great to get the hits.\u201d<\/p><p>After the Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, sophomore Quaid Copher hit a ball down the left line in the second inning to bring in the Hawks\u2019 third run. Senior Chase Schellenger then followed up with a hit, which skipped past the second baseman and helped bring in another run to make it 4-0.<\/p><p>The Panthers advanced a runner to third base in the fourth inning, but still came up scoreless as the Hawks completed a double play and added a strikeout to end the inning without harm.<\/p><p>\u201cWe do our homework, guys know where to be positioned,\u201d Cosma said. \u201cWhen we\u2019re executing at a high level, we feel that our chances are pretty good. Today was a testament to these guys. They know how to win. It\u2019s good to see that they\u2019re getting that winning swagger back. I just hope that it continues into next week.\u201d<\/p><p>The Panthers\u2019 only run of the game came in the seventh inning, where Arter gave up two hits and struck out one batter.<\/p><p>\u201cWe hit the ball hard today, Gage Arter gave us a great outing. He\u2019s having a great season for us,\u201d Cosma said. \u201cThese guys really want to compete.
