I forgot about that!\u201d<\/p><\/li><li><p>\u201cMary Jaklevick\u201d wrote, \u201cBill Coate! Love it!\u201d<\/p><\/li><li><p>\u201cMarissa Bower\u201d wrote, \u201cJenny Powell! OMG! I remember Ali and I got to her hotel door before Secret Service (agents) grabbed us! That was so much fun!\u201d<\/p><\/li><li><p>\u201cLisa Arellanes Gill\u201d wrote, \u201cWhat a cool memory!\u201d<\/p><\/li><li><p>\u201cSelena Brice Dent\u201d wrote, \u201cWow! That\u2019s a very long time ago! I remember it well! She was staying at the same hotel as us! We tried so hard to sneak up to her floor but the Secret Service was NOT having it.\u201d<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p>Drunk driving<\/p><p>A letter about this month\u2019s start of a drunk driver\u2019s trial for the 2015 deaths of Vanessa Tapetillo and her fiancee Juan Barragan moved some readers.<\/p><ul><li><p>\u201cKym Smith Salter\u201d wrote, \u201cFar too long for justice!\u201d<\/p><\/li><li><p>\u201cRodonna Lynn Betts\u201d wrote, \u201cThe wheels of justice move slowly and sometimes inconsistently. Then, there\u2019s always the \u2018deals\u2019 that are made, that don\u2019t always serve justice. I am very disappointed in our judicial system and feel that there is much to be \u2018fixed\u2019.\u201d<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p>Water systems<\/p><p>Valley Public Radio reported on how Valley Teen Ranch and Liberty High School, struggling with water issues, were to be connected to the Madera Ranchos water system as part of a $6.6-million state-funded consolidation project \u2014 once the state approves it.<\/p><ul><li><p>\u201cDale Drozen\u201d wrote, \u201cWhy are two water systems with no drinking water being hooked up to the Ranchos systems already on water rations?\u201d<\/p><\/li><li><p>\u201cBrad McDonald\u201d wrote, \u201cDid the rate payers vote on bringing Liberty and Valley Teen Ranch into their (water) district? Nope. Another back door deal that some attorney will love to get their hands on.\u201d<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p>Speedy rail<\/p><p>A report by a nonprofit think tank, SPUR, argued that state and local officials in the San Joaquin Valley need to invest in public transit and denser development if they want to benefit from the high-speed railroad.<\/p><ul><li><p>\u201cGary Hall\u201d wrote, \u201cModesto and Merced should focus on the Altamont Pass train.\u201d<\/p><\/li><li><p>\u201cRichard Torres\u201d wrote, \u201cHigh-speed rail will never get done. Already it is broke and the cost of it continues to rise. There is no competent oversight by anyone in California to see this project through.\u201d<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p>Rants and raves<\/p><ul><li><p>Rant \u2014 A video released by Madera police shows two suspects robbing El Amigo Market around 9:30 a.m. Sept. 7. \u201cEdward L. Rose\u201d wrote, \u201cYou\u2019re on camera, dummies.\u201d<\/p><\/li><li><p>Rant \u2014 \u201cApril Molina\u201d wrote in response to a letter to the editor on Madera\u2019s homeless, \u201cThere is a meeting on Sept. 30 at 9 a.m. at the (Madera Municipal) Golf Course. This meeting is an \u2018intergovernmental\u2019 meeting and will have the county supervisors, the city council, mayor Medellin, and the supervisors from Chowchilla. This meeting will focus on the homeless encampments and they are looking for public input. Please, please show up!\u201d<\/p><\/li><li><p>Rant \u2014 Madera County\u2019s district attorney\u2019s office is seeking help to fight against a Yosemite Lakes Park arsonist getting paroled. \u201cSergio Moreno\u201d wrote, \u201cMaybe Mr. Linn could take time to expand on his comments on why he thinks both defendants were not prosecuted in an appropriate manner, and more importantly what penal code sections he and his office would have charged to get the convictions he is talking about?\u201d<\/p><\/li><li><p>Rave \u2014 \u201cBobby Kahn\u201d wrote, \u201cSad to read of the passing of Kenny Evans, three-sport athlete at Madera High, hard worker \u2014 good all around guy and friend.\u201d<\/p><\/li><li><p>Rave \u2014 \u201cRich Mostert\u201d wrote, \u201cRob Poythress is an absolutely fantastic choice for the Senate! For over 30 years I\u2019ve watched him work tirelessly on behalf of his constituents.
