{"id":5680,"date":"2018-01-06T19:25:34","date_gmt":"2018-01-06T19:25:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maderatribustg.wpenginepowered.com\/?p=5680"},"modified":"2026-05-13T18:31:29","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T18:31:29","slug":"former-gym-a-point-of-contention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maderatribune.com\/es\/former-gym-a-point-of-contention\/","title":{"rendered":"Former gym a point of contention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The Madera Tribune received the following comments online about articles and local happenings.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Local gym closing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<em>Anson Lihosit of Madera wrote about the closing of a gym on the corner of Sunset and Orchard avenues, lamenting the decision made in late 2016.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cMaria Rieping Uribe\u201d<\/strong> wrote, \u201cI\u2019ve lived here my whole life and never set foot in that gym. I am happy every time I pass by it now that there is far less traffic there&#8230; esp. those drivers who would pass through the intersection heading east on Sunset and then brake and block traffic trying to get across to the little parking lot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe parking lot was never conveniently placed but may have served well when Madera was smaller and the gym members were fewer. If they had thought ahead, they would have bought up the neighboring properties and provided a bigger parking lot to its members.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cTerri Martinez\u201d<\/strong> replied, \u201cThat is the problem. The permits were completely out dated for the volume of business they were doing. So glad I can cross Williams and Sunset without having 30 cars parked and blocking the street.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cChris Schoettler\u201d<\/strong> chimed in, \u201cHow small are the parking lots for Thomas Jefferson and John Adams? Good luck getting through there. It is an over reach of government to shut down businesses. I hope where you work isn\u2019t next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cAllison Leigh Weber\u201d<\/strong> wrote, \u201cI learned how to swim at the Madera Athletic Club Lots of childhood memories!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cKeanu N Keanu Armentrout\u201d<\/strong> replied, \u201csame here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cKym Smith Salter\u201d<\/strong> wrote, \u201cThe Neighbors in the area b****ed, moaned and were big babies&#8230;..Now let them deal with the abandoned building&#8230; Don\u2019t come back to the City and cry about the effects of this&#8230; You all got what you wanted!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cApril Molina\u201d<\/strong> wrote, \u201cThere are other gyms at better locations. I\u2019m sure you\u2019ll get past it\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cSean Thomas\u201d<\/strong> replied, \u201cYeah. There are. In FRESNO. As of now, Madera doesn\u2019t have a single lap-pool that is available to the public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cMolina\u201d<\/strong> responded, \u201cMadera High School used to be open, there\u2019s also Swimming Pool Park\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cPatrick Odom\u201d<\/strong> chimed in, \u201cThose aren\u2019t lap pools meant for exercise open to the public. Those pools are open ONLY during the summer and ONLY for recreational swimming&#8230;or at least the last I heard they were only used for recreational swimming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cJack Porter\u201d<\/strong> wrote, \u201cThis guy that wrote this moved away from Madera so basically, who cares. Stick around and raise your family, vote, spend money here. Then maybe someone will care what your opinion is on Madera issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cArielle Rodriguez\u201d<\/strong> wrote, \u201cI drive through there every day it is nice to not have traffic, dumb drivers or gym members looking at their phone while crossing a very busy street. The inside looked terrible and there was always equipment broken that never seemed to get fixed.
