But, to be truthful, if I\u2019d read the description carefully, I probably wouldn\u2019t have ordered it. However, I was excited to find a Jake Lassiter book by Paul Levine that was not on my 15-book list in this series. Why might I not have purchased \u201cLast Chance Lassiter?\u201d Because it\u2019s a novella.<\/p><p>I haven\u2019t read a novella (longer than a short story; shorter than a novel) since I read James Jones\u2019 \u201cThe Pistol\u201d when I was a college student. I\u2019d previously read Jones\u2019 \u201cFrom Here to Eternity,\u201d one of those modern classics that one will never forget. I liked \u201cThe Pistol\u201d and remember the plot very well after all these years. So, I don\u2019t know why I haven\u2019t read more novellas.<\/p><p>\u201cLast Chance Lassiter\u201d (2012, 137 pages in paperback format) is really a novella (109 pages) and a short story about another of Levine\u2019s series, \u201cSolomon and Lord\u201d (18 pages). The remainder of the book is annotated entries about Levine\u2019s two award-winning series.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m glad that I bought this book.
