{"id":1936,"date":"2019-12-03T02:54:11","date_gmt":"2019-12-03T02:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maderatribustg.wpenginepowered.com\/?p=1936"},"modified":"2026-05-13T18:28:05","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T18:28:05","slug":"art-event-to-raise-mental-health-issue-awareness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maderatribune.com\/es\/art-event-to-raise-mental-health-issue-awareness\/","title":{"rendered":"Art event to raise mental health issue awareness"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"1936\" class=\"elementor elementor-1936\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-74dcdbf5 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"74dcdbf5\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5b0ece elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5b0ece\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A Madera woman is putting together an art event to raise awareness for mental health issues.<\/p><p>Blanca Robledo came up with the idea after recently going through postpartum depression and suffering from anxiety.<\/p><p>\u201cAbout three months ago, I had a baby and I ended up having postpartum,\u201d Robledo said. \u201cBecause I was aware of what anxiety was, and I\u2019ve done counseling and stuff like that, I was able to recognize that I wasn\u2019t feeling well.\u201d<\/p><p>But Robledo also talked to other people suffering from mental health issues and realized that they have even more difficulty in dealing with the challenge. That\u2019s when she decided to organize an art competition that would bring together victims of mental health issues.<\/p><p>\u201cPainting is a form of releasing stress, so that\u2019s what brought that on,\u201d Robledo said.<\/p><p>Painters who attend the event will get free art supplies and brochures with information on suicide hotlines as well as other educational materials.<\/p><p>\u201cAll kinds of artists are welcomed,\u201d Robledo said. \u201cThey will get an 8&#215;10 canvas. If they want to bring their own paint and brushes, they can, but they will also be supplied with those.\u201d<\/p><p>The winner of the art competition will have his or her painting displayed at the Madera Government Center. Still, people are welcome to come and paint simply for fun if they don\u2019t want to participate in the competition.<\/p><p>\u201cWe\u2019re gonna vote and see which one people like,\u201d Robledo said. \u201cThe one that gets chosen, they\u2019re going to be able to display their art canvas at the Madera Government Center for the whole month of December.\u201d<\/p><p>The Madera woman also has other plans in the near future to support mental health victims.<\/p><p>\u201cMy goal is to reach people through different forms,\u201d she said. \u201cThe next thing that I plan to do, I\u2019m going to probably do a support group where all kinds of people get together and talk about depression. I feel like a lot of people are scared or embarrassed to talk about their depression.\u201d<\/p><p>Robledo said she will try to get some funding and buy books for victims of mental health issues.<\/p><p>\u201cI personally have a book that I read that helped me with my anxiety,\u201d she said. \u201cMaybe I can get funding to help buy those books.\u201d<\/p><p>No matter what kind of struggles they may be experiencing, Robledo invites all kinds of people to the event.<\/p><p>\u201cWhatever it is,\u201d she said. \u201cIf it\u2019s just regular depression, if it\u2019s anxiety, if it\u2019s a panic attack, if it\u2019s postpartum depression.\u201d<\/p><p>The free event will be held at 6 p.m. on Dec. 6 at Mountain Mike\u2019s Pizza, 2180 W. Cleveland Ave., in Madera.
