Smiling is something we do when we see or hear something pleasant. We may laugh, or simply smile. We often impulsively smile when we pass by someone we don\u2019t even now. Why is it we want to show a pleasant face to a complete stranger?<\/p>\n
Smiles are contagious, and they project a positive feeling. Although there are people who tend to have negative outlooks, negativity is not a desirable trait. People are encouraged to smile through difficulties and sadness in order to make the situations of life less painful. However, smiles often conceal heartbreak and pain, and there are times when sadness and concern are appropriate.<\/p>\n
It is true that no matter what is happening in your life, a positive outlook makes the body, mind, and soul feel better. Smiling and laughter can help to get through each day.<\/p>\n
I always loved \u201cSmiley\u201d things. I used to collect smiley faces. I love the emoticons people use on their cell phones and computers. These are just some of the ways our society tries to project that joyful atmosphere.<\/p>\n
As I was growing up, I learned quite a few songs that I still remember. Several of them have to do with smiles, and I often sing them (to myself). I love songs that make me want to smile.<\/p>\n
These songs that are actually about smiling. You may remember these, too. The first one is sung to the tune \u201cBattle Hymn of the Republic.\u201d I believe I learned this one in Girl Scouts.<\/p>\n

Smile, even though it\u2019s breaking. When there are clouds in the sky, you\u2019ll get by, if you smile through your fear and sorrow. Smile and maybe tomorrow, you\u2019ll see the sun come shining through for you. Just light up your face with gladness; hide every trace of sadness. Although a tear may be ever so near, that\u2019s the time you must keep on trying.<\/em><\/p>\n \nSmile, what\u2019s the use of crying? You\u2019ll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile.<\/em><\/p>\n Joy and happiness in life are what we aspire to have, and the joy we have on the inside shines through to the outside, via smiles.
