A favorite meal at our house involves each person getting a whole cooked Dungeness crab, cleaned, cracked and ready to eat, along with a big artichoke, both fresh from the coast. If we are very lucky, the crab has been sourced right from the docks and not from a freezer.
As I am writing this, my husband is cooking and cleaning the crabs. He asked the vendor for, “The biggest ones you’ve got.” I did not even ask how much they cost, but I know the price was dear.
When we cannot get over to the cost, we do the next best thing, which is visit a local seafood market. They keep very busy with all the service organizations putting on big crab feeds. I must admit that I have never been to one of those events, but I hear they are great successes.
