“Into the Woods” is directed and choreographed by Madera native Michael Christopher Flores. Flores graduated from Madera South High School in 2013 and has since worked as a director and choreographer all around the Central Valley. He graduated with his B.A. in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in Musical Theatre Performance from San Diego State University, and is now setting off to pursue his MFA in Directing at the University of Iowa this fall.

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim’s classic “Into the Woods” follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later when disaster begins to arise.

Flores is honored to have the opportunity to bring such a beloved piece of musical theatre to his home of Madera, and thanks to the Madera Theatre Project, he gets to do just that.
