Letters: Re: Jim Crow

Are we the only ones?

No. In early times, slavery was the norm. Not just us, (a British Colony), but Spain, Portugal, Netherlands most others, and Africa! That’s where they came from. Slaves at birth and slaves for life. Sold at auction. They came here to North America, not knowing where or what.

Not knowing anything. They were forced into the bidding of their owner, who fathered some of their kids. However, they were introduced to a different way of life. It was evolutionary, which takes a long time. Some were taught to read and write. Some were exposed to the Bible and Christianity. Some began to assimilate; some, not all. Some chose to take the path of the oppressed; they were owed. Those ones are still here. LBJ’s “Great Society” brought programs to cater to them. Not so much to help, but to guarantee their vote. Equal Opportunity was one. Quotas.

The government was the greatest user of this program: Create a spot. Regulated business was mandated to follow. Unions embraced these programs. It increased their base. I had new employees that were in the electronics field that did not know positive from negative! Some worked out, some did not; that is life.

Why are people coming here? Same reason my grandparents came. Opportunity. If the Slaves in the 1700s knew about America and had a choice, would they get on that ship willingly? I say, yes. We don’t owe anyone anything. It is offered — it’s up to YOU, on what you do. I know high school “graduates” that do not know what humidity is, how clouds form, who Lewis and Clark were. I ask, “who is the 45th president?” And they don’t know, and they have a “right” to vote. They use a “voter guide” they get in the mail.

Slavery gone? No, it just has a different tone.

The Democratic party has always been the party of slavery. You have to break the chains.
