Most people who know me are aware of at least three things about me:
1) I have strong faith in God,
2) I am patriotic; I love my country, and
3) I love coffee. A day without coffee is like a day without breath.
When I got involved with my church here, Madera United Methodist Church, I began to enjoy our social hour after church. It is a time we love to get together with cookies, coffee, and fellowship. Almost everyone who comes to the service also adjourns into the social hall to visit with each other.
I have always enjoyed that time of fellowship. However, when I began attending that church, what they served during the social time was DECAF coffee. Yuck!! I could not figure out what the point is in drinking decaf coffee.
I told the folks at church the only thing I don’t like about that church, is that only decaf coffee is served. During one of my rants about decaf coffee, I found there were others in the church who felt the same way. We banded together in protest, and now both decaf and regular coffee are served.
My mother liked to drink decaf coffee. There were a couple of brands many years ago that she would buy, and she actually liked them. One of them was Sanka. I tasted it and just about gagged on it. This began my discrimination against decaf coffee.
I don’t drink sodas or energy drinks. I just don’t like them. Coffee is my drink of choice. I’m bad about drinking water, even though I know I need to drink more water. It just doesn’t have a good taste to me. It’s kind of blah.
I am aware that many people cannot drink caffeine. I respect that. I am very fortunate that caffeine has never affected me in the ways some have experienced. It doesn’t keep me awake at night, and it doesn’t give me the jitters. I do try not to drink too many cups of coffee in a day.
When I visited my doctor a couple of months ago for a checkup, I made it abundantly clear to him that I am willing to give up anything in my diet except coffee. He didn’t even blink an eye at my statement. Fortunately, he didn’t tell me I have to give up coffee.
My addiction to coffee is known by many, and that is OK. It almost assures me that the regular stuff will be available for me wherever coffee is served.
I love coffee, and I wish everybody did.
Have a great weekend!
— My love to all,
Nancy
